TV alliance of the year
RTL Deutschland and Deutsche Telekom present a joint concept for the broadcast of the UEFA EURO 2024 matches.

During the UEFA EURO 2024, which is taking place in Germany this summer, RTL Deutschland will partner with Deutsche Telekom to create the best possible experience for millions of football fans in Germany. The production partnership was announced in August 2023 and unveiled on 7 May 2024. 12 top matches will be jointly broadcast on Magenta TV and RTL, the free-to-air TV channel from RTL Deutschland, while Deutsche Telekom will additionally broadcast all 51 matches on Magenta TV. RTL will offer highlights from all matches, while both companies have lined up a team of presenters, commentators and experts to add to the coverage.

The on-air team includes Laura Wontorra, Johannes B. Kerner, Lothar Matthäus, Michael Ballack, Steffen Freund, Wolff Fuss, Marco Hagemann, Owen Hargreaves, Jan Henkel, Patrick Ittrich, Florian König, Tabea Kemme, Anna Kraft, Anna Sara Lange, Shkodran Mustafi, Laura Papendick, Thomas Wagner and Jana Wosnitza.

RTL Deutschland has created one of the most modern studios in Europe at its location in Cologne. The studio will be home to both RTL and Magenta TV for the duration of the tournament, hosting presenters and live broadcasts from the stadiums, the host cities, the national team’s quarters and the UEFA fan zones.

The 12 matches broadcast on RTL and Magenta TV include one round of 16 and one quarter final. Alongside the live broadcasts on RTL, football fans can follow the UEFA EURO 2024 across all of RTL Deutschland’s channels and platforms. 15 minutes after each final whistle, streaming service RTL+ will show all goals and all highlights from all 51 matches. The ‘RTL Sport’ social media channels will provide a digital home for all football fans, while newly conceived match-day show Das RTL EM-Studio – Alle Spiele, Tore, Emotionen (The RTL EM Studio – All games, goals, emotions) will be at the centre of all UEFA EURO coverage. During prime time, Elton, Stefan Kuntz, Jan Köppen and Stefan Effenberg will alternate to present the highlights from match day, alongside analysis from football experts. And at the end of the day, the daily format Nachtjournal EM-Spezial will summarise the latest events.

Stephan Schmitter, CEO of RTL Deutschland, says: "The anticipation for the UEFA EURO in Germany is growing! For the first time, two partners, RTL and Magenta TV, will be broadcasting together from our joint studio – right in the heart of the European Championship host city of Cologne. For our leading team, we have nominated an on-air team consisting of the best football experts in the country.”

Inga Leschek, Programme Managing Director RTL & RTL+ and incoming CCO of RTL Deutschland, says: "The football world is on fire and we are fully committed! 12 live matches on free-to-air TV and all the goals from all the matches immediately after the final whistle on our channels and platforms - only RTL and RTL+ can do that! We are also freeing up our prime time on free-to-air TV for the major sporting event of the year. In our European Championship studio, Elton and Jan Köppen bring together expertise, entertainment and proximity to the fans, presenting all the match-day highlights and celebrating Germany's biggest competition – available daily at 20:15 on RTL."

RTL Deutschland and Deutsche Telekom have been in a strategic partnership since 2020 to integrate RTL+ in Magenta TV.
