Tracking of open and click rates
We want you to be fully and transparently informed about how your personal data is protected. You also have a legal right to know the purpose, type and scope of data processing.
We currently use "CleverReach" as our press releases tool. CleverReach is a service provided by CleverReach GmbH & Co. KG, which is based in Germany.
We have concluded a data processing agreement with CleverReach that complies with the requirements of Art. 28 GDPR.
Please note: We have changed newsletter providers in the past, and it is possible that we may do so again in the future for business or administrative reasons.
We process the following data for the administration and dispatch of the press releases:
- Your email address
- Your first name, if provided
- Your last name, if provided
- The name of your company, if provided
- Date of entry/accepting to receive RTL Group press releases
- Email open rates
- Click rates within emails, where applicable
- Status of bounces or other delivery problems
We will process your personal data for as long as your subscription to the press releases remains active. If you unsubscribe or your subscription ends due to another reason (e.g. delivery issues), your data will be retained for up to three years thereafter.
Why do we do this?
Primarily, to prevent unsolicited mailings.
In addition, readers of the press releases occasionally contact us to ask why they are no longer receiving them. Retaining the data allows us, for a limited period, to clarify why the press releases are no longer being delivered.
If you would like us to delete your data, you can contact us at any time at webmaster@rtl.com.
Tracking is carried out to enable certain functionalities through link clicks and to monitor the deliverability of press releases, which can occasionally encounter issues.
Why are open and click rates tracked?
To ensure a high deliverability rate for emails (i.e. to prevent them from being flagged as spam), email service providers must maintain a strong “reputation”. This reputation is built by serving clients who send high-quality emails – meaning communications the recipients genuinely want and have actively subscribed to, such as our press releases.
Maintaining such a reputation is increasingly important, particularly as few major providers (such as Google with Gmail) play a central role in determining whether emails reach the recipient’s inbox.
We may track email open rates and link clicks to understand whether you, as a reader, are engaging with the content of the press releases.
If you are not comfortable with this, unfortunately you will not be able to subscribe to the press releases, as your consent is required for this processing.
The legal basis for the processing of your personal data, including the open and click rates, is your consent in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can revoke this consent at any time with effect for the future by unsubscribing from the press release mailing list. For this purpose, we provide a corresponding link in every message. The legality of the data processing operations that have already taken place remains unaffected.
The data you have stored with us for the purpose of receiving our releases will be stored by us until you unsubscribe. Your data will be deleted from both our servers and the CleverReach servers three years after unsubscription from the press release mailing list.

Currently, no third-country processing takes place in relation to the dispatch of press releases.
Data processing at “CleverReach” takes place exclusively in data centres in the European Union.
However, we cannot entirely rule out the possibility that we will switch to an email service provider based in a third country (e.g. the US) in the future. This may be the case if EU-based providers cannot deliver the required quality of service.
For this reason, we obtain consent for third-country processing within the meaning of Art. 49 para. 1 lit. a) GDPR for new press release subscriptions as a precautionary measure.
Personal data is not passed on to third parties for the purposes of advertising, market research or opinion polling.
Every press release email includes a link to unsubscribe from our mailing list.
