RTL stories - The podcast
“We need to be there where our audiences are”

Christophe Goossens, CEO of RTL Luxembourg and BCE, reflects on what it takes to run Luxembourg’s leading media brand in a market defined by diversity, rapid change and high expectations around trust – listen to the latest episode of RTL stories – The podcast.

Recently also appointed Head of Luxembourg Operations for RTL Group, Christophe Goossens sits at the helm of a uniquely complex media ecosystem, which blends legacy and innovation, public service and commercial performance, content and technology.

A legacy built in Luxembourg

RTL stands for Radio Télévision Luxembourg, a name with a century of media history behind it. Today’s RTL Radio Lëtzebuerg was born in 1959, while the predecessor of today’s RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg began broadcasting in Luxembourgish a decade later. Today, that legacy continues to evolve across digital platforms, streaming and social media, as RTL Luxembourg serves one of Europe’s most diverse and multilingual audiences.

“We need to be there where our audiences are”, says Christophe.

In a small but highly international market, adaptation is not optional, it is part of the company’s DNA, . “If you want to survive in a small country, you need to adapt constantly.”

Balancing content, technology and public service

As CEO of both RTL Luxembourg and BCE (Broadcasting Center Europe), Christophe operates across two very different worlds – creative and technical – while navigating a uniquely Luxembourgish model that combines commercial media with a public service mission.

“It’s a very unique model here in Luxembourg.”

Leading this balance requires constant evolution, entrepreneurial thinking and strong teams across both sides of the business.

Trust in a fast-changing media landscape

In an era shaped by AI and a variety of content, Christophe is clear about what matters most:

“The only differentiator we have is trust.”

While AI is embraced as a tool, he emphasises that journalism remains central to RTL’s role in society, saying that “Journalists will always be at the core of what we do.”
