World Radio Day is celebrated each year on 13 February. Besides being a leader in TV and streaming, RTL Group has interests in 36 radio stations across Europe. Our history started with radio back in 1924, when Radio Luxembourg first went on air. As a European pioneer, CLR (Compagnie Luxembourgeoise de Radiodiffusion), the predecessor or RTL Group, broadcast a unique programme in several languages using the same wavelength.
Today, RTL Group is a leading entertainment company across broadcast, streaming, content and digital, with radio – including several online radio stations – still playing an important role.
To mark the 100th anniversary of radio, we asked colleagues from across RTL Group to reflect on the impact and significance of the medium. “The unique combination of emotion and speed is what makes radio so special”, says Stephan Schmitter, CEO of RTL Deutschland.
