Inspiring young children
From 18 to 23 March 2024, Groupe M6’s TV channels M6 and Gulli are taking part in the ‘Press and media week in schools’, offering schoolchildren the chance to discover the fascinating world of media.

‘La Semaine de la presse et des médias dans l’Ecole’ (Press and media week in schools) is an educational initiative organised by the Centre for Media and Information Education (CLEMI), aimed at helping children and teenagers, from nursery school through to high school, to discover and learn more about media and journalism. The initiative helps them to develop a critical mind, question the origin of information and the reliability of sources, and raise their awareness of the dangers of fake news.

This year, Groupe M6 is once again taking part in the initiative. Groupe M6's flagship channel M6 and children's channel Gulli opened up their backstage areas to schoolchildren, who produced reports on the topic of the Olympic Games.

Over a two-week period, the editorial teams worked with the students to prepare their reports: for example researching information on the topics, writing synopses and preparing interviews. The students also gained hands-on experience in filming and editing. These reports will be broadcast from 18 to 22 March 2024 on the TV news programme 12.45. Two students will also have the chance to co-present a live section on the evening news programme 19.45 on Saturday 23 March. On Gulli, the programme Wazup will include topics dedicated to the ‘Press and media week in schools’, such as an explanation on how TV news programmes are produced.

Philippe Bony, Chairman of Gulli, says: “Every year, Gulli, France's leading children's channel, takes an active role in the ‘Press and media week in schools’. Enabling young people to understand, decipher and analyse current events is a real challenge for society.”

Stéphane Gendarme, News Director at Groupe M6, says: “We've opened the doors of the M6 editorial office wide to young reporters, the generation who will be informing and reporting in the future. It's not just about creating new careers – the operation with Gulli is above all an opportunity to discover the world of journalism. Not just through exchanges and visits, but by taking part from start to finish in the making of a report or a newspaper. It's a chance to get to grips with the whole profession and to share the same passion as M6 journalists.”

Every year, the ‘Press and media week in schools’ mobilises 4 million pupils, 230,000 teachers and 1,800 media partners across Europe.
