Founded on 13 November 2024, LaFA consists of French audiovisual groups Groupe M6, France Télévisions and Groupe TF1, collective management organisations ADAMI, SACD, SACEM and SCAM, and producers’ unions ANIMFRANCE, SPI and USPA.
With major upheaval in the French audiovisual sector, LaFA aims to establish the economic stability of the sector, alongside supporting its transformation, championing diverse creativity and ensuring the influence of French culture. LaFA is also committed to the fight against sexual- and gender-based violence and meeting environmental challenges. The collective will promote better understanding of the audiovisual sector’s economic and cultural challenges for the benefit of all stakeholders – including regulators, legislators, the government and the European Commission.
One of LaFA’s first actions will be the publication of a study in spring 2025 on the current economic status and initial recommendations for the French audiovisual sector. All in all, LaFA aims to unite players within the sector around a common vision and fight to support an industry of excellence.
Defending the French audiovisual sector
With over 300,000 employees, including writers, directors, artists, composers, technicians, independent producers, distributors and broadcasters, the audiovisual sector is France’s largest economic society and the pillar of French democracy and culture.
LaFA believes the French audiovisual sector plays an essential role in providing the people of France with free and universal access to information, alongside a rich offer of entertainment and sport. LaFA’s members therefore guarantee the diversity of creation and convey positive, inclusive and unifying messages throughout French society. The members contribute to cultural heritage, strengthen social cohesion and promote French culture in Europe and around the world.
LaFA has identified the following objectives to defend its members against the public authorities:
- To ensure that public broadcasting receives dedicated, predictable and long-term funding to maintain its independence and support audiovisual creation and the provision of information to the people of France.
- To encourage the development of free-to-air broadcasters by lifting regulatory restrictions in TV advertising. National advertising resources should be directed towards the national media to guarantee the continuity of creation and the pluralism of information.
- To guarantee the financial independence and mission of the French National Centre of Cinema (CNC), which makes vital contributions to national production and therefore French culture.
- To ensure the continuity of compensation of temporary workers in the entertainment industry to guarantee artistic creation.
- To preserve the tax credit schemes for the audiovisual, film and music industries, which are crucial for maintaining employment in France, alongside supporting creation and innovation.
- To promote the ethical and responsible use of generative AI to respect and uphold intellectual property rights.
- To support a regulatory framework for European digital platforms that ensures copyright protection, guarantees equal treatment with television channels, and is committed to creation.
LaFA members complement each other and have the same shared ambition: to ensure the strength of the French audiovisual sector, both now and in the future.
