Farmer Wants a Wife, the reality TV format developed by Fremantle, is a dating show where farmers are introduced to a number of women to see if mutual interest – and eventually love – occurs. The first edition of the series premiered in the UK in 2001, and since then the format has travelled across the world with over 30 local adaptations in different territories.
“It's like a big family reunion”
The German adaptation, Bauer sucht Frau, premiered on RTL Deutschland’s flagship channel RTL on 2 October 2005 with Inka Bause as the host. 25 years later, Inka Bause, who is still the presenter of the cult show, will host a big reunion to celebrate the iconic series, broadcast on RTL on 16 January 2025.
In the anniversary show, viewers will meet the farmers and farmwives from all 20 seasons. The reunion is full of emotions and surprises, highlighting spectacular events, such as the quickest wedding and the most love letters received.
Inka Bause, host, says: “This is a very, very special day for me, because Bauer sucht Frau has brought us all together,” and continues: “It's like a big family reunion.”
Finding love in France & Hungary
L'Amour Est Dans Le Pré, the French adaptation, first premiered on Groupe M6’s flagship channel M6 on 8 September 2005, and will broadcast its anniversary season starting 13 January 2025, on the same channel. The programme won its best audience figures in seven years with its last season, broadcast in 2024. In its 20th season, 15 new farmers, both male and female, aged between 26 and 67, are on the search for true love. Karine Le Marchand is hosting the series where the viewers will follow the authentic and endearing personalities who all want the same thing: to love and be loved.
Házasodna a gazda, the Hungarian adaptation broadcast on RTL Hungary’s flagship channel, recently announced that the popular format will return in 2025 for its eighth season. A call for farmers to apply to be participants in the dating format has been broadcast since the end of December 2024., and this season will include farmers who are making a living from farming, who are self-sufficient, hard-working and, most of all, want to find a partner.
