RTL Hungary is entering the final phase of preparations for the biggest live sports production in its history. We visited the Champions League studio on a match day, where Chief Sports Editor Balázs Zelenyánszky reflected on what lies ahead 100 days before the final.
On 30 May 2026, the eyes of the football world will turn to Budapest. For RTL Hungary, the official broadcaster of the Uefa Champions League since the 2024/25 season, the countdown has entered its final phase.
We visited RTL Hungary’s Champions League studio on a match day, just moments before going live on air. While presenters were rehearsing and final checks were underway in the control room, we spoke to Chief Sports Editor Balázs Zelenyánszky about the ongoing preparations, the special requirements for a worldwide broadcast and why this final in Budapest represents an important milestone not only for RTL Hungary, but also in his own 25+ year career at the company.
“A totally different level”
Besides broadcasting the final for Hungarian viewers, RTL Hungary’s team will also deliver the international feed to broadcasters around the world, with an expected global audience of more than 150 million viewers.
“Nothing compares to a Champions League final,” Balázs Zelenyánszky explains. “We have broadcast major live events before and acted as host broadcaster many times. But this cannot be comparable.”
The scale alone is unprecedented. Uefa production requirements for the final span 26 pages, detailing every element of the broadcast. “When we received the requirements, I realised immediately: this is a totally different level,” he says. “There’s no bigger event in this industry.”
Behind the scenes, preparation is already running at full speed. From camera planning to streaming workflows and international signal delivery, multiple teams across RTL Hungary and beyond are working together. More than 100 professionals will be involved in the multilateral host broadcast, with an additional 30+ colleagues dedicated to RTL Hungary’s coverage.
As we leave the studio, the countdown clock is ticking. In 100 days, Budapest will host its first-ever Champions League final. And RTL Hungary will be at the centre of it, broadcasting to the world.
