Smartclip’s VP of Projects and Processes shares her journey through the world of advertising technology and her experiences navigating both personal and professional challenges in the latest episode of RTL stories – The podcast.

An expert in video advertising with a strong affinity for the technology, Mirjam has been instrumental in shaping the ad-tech landscape at RTL Group. She started working for SpotX in 2015, a US-based ad-tech company that was part of RTL Group from 2014 to 2021.

When RTL Group decided to focus on its European ad-tech business, Smartclip, and to sell SpotX, Mirjam played a crucial role in transferring the European publishers from SpotX to Smartclip.

In the latest episode of RTL stories – The podcast, Mirjam reflects on her career trajectory, from her beginnings in sales at a publishing company to her current leadership role at Smartclip.

In the interview, she delves into the importance of clear communication and trust in international teams, as well as the challenges of working across different cultures. "Being Dutch means I’m direct, which can be intimidating for some, but honesty gets you further when it comes to consulting", she explains, illustrating how a straightforward approach can be both a challenge and an asset.

Mirjam also shares practical advice on managing teams, including the significance of making delegation clear and focusing on one key task at a time. She also highlights the importance of taking care of our mental health. “If you're not feeling well, you go to the doctor. So why not do the same for your brain? It's equally important”, she says. The conversation also touches on the challenges and opportunities for women in tech. "Your gender doesn't define you; your skills and passion do", points out Mirjam.
