RTL Hungary relaunched its website RTL.hu into a quality news outlet for video and text formats at the end of 2021. Objective and impartial, the news site shares fact-based information and reports on a variety of news topics in a credible way.
After three years of operation, RTL Hungary has decided to transform the site once again to focus more on entertainment videos and magazine-style content. With a renewed marketing and content strategy, the platform will aim to support RTL Hungary’s linear and streaming portfolio and strengthen the company’s infotainment offering.
The revamped site will feature more sports content, including short-form videos related to the UEFA Champions League, which will be broadcast on RTL Hungary’s channels from 14 August. News will not disappear entirely from the platform either: Edited versions of news programme Híradó as well as daily infotainmemt programme Fókusz will be available to watch on the site.
RTL Hungary decided to reposition RTL.hu due to a saturated domestic online news market, dominated by global players, which mostly offer freely accessible video content. Furthermore, the change in video news consumption habits would have made the operation of RTL.hu unsustainable in the long run.
Following the transformation, a new editorial office focusing on online video production will be established, led by Péter Baráth, Marketing and Communications Director. Current Editor-in-Chief Gábor Bordás will leave the company by mutual agreement.
The repositioning of RTL.hu will be completed this autumn. During the transition period, the site will continue to operate, offering the most important news and video content from RTL Hungary’s portfolio.
