Broadcast Magazine awards ‘Mediapersoon van het Jaar’ (Media Person of the Year) annually to leaders within the Dutch media industry. This year, the award was presented for the 33rd time during a special event on 11 December. Arjen Lubach, Dutch television presenter and Media Person of the Year 2022, presented the award to Sven Sauvé, CEO of RTL Nederland and Media Person of the Year 2023.

A significant achievement

The jury explained that Sven Sauvé, who has been CEO of RTL Nederland since 2017, is “the driver of the successful transformation of RTL Nederland from a traditional B2B broadcast company to a B2C media company, with Videoland as the shining jewel in the crown.” The jury cited the rise of Videoland, which now has over 1.3 million subscribers and is the second most popular streaming platform in the Netherlands, as a significant achievement. RTL Nederland was also praised by the jury for its strong financial results, earning record Adjusted EBITA of €161 million and revenue of €636 million in 2022.

Broadcast Magazine also praised RTL Nederland’s strong content across news and entertainment, linear TV and streaming: “Alongside Videoland, RTL Nederland continues to invest heavily in its excellent news service, while achieving market leadership with its linear channels.” The jury cited De Verraders (The Traitors) – an original format from RTL Nederland – and B&B Vol Liefde (B&B Full of Love) as two of the most talked-about, best-rated programmes of 2023.
