The Deutscher Fernsehpreis will honour outstanding German productions for the 25th time. A few weeks ahead of the awards ceremony, the nominees for this year’s awards have been revealed, with RTL Group programmes competing in 20 categories. Nominated formats include popular shows such as Let’s Dance, reality game show The Traitors and youth series Maxton Hall.
RTL Deutschland – 15 nominations
Germany’s favourite dance show Let’s Dance has been nominated for three awards: It is competing for ‘Best Entertainment Show’ and ‘Best Entertainment Set Design’, while Mark Achterberg is up for ‘Best Director Entertainment’. The 17th season of Let’s Dance was a complete success: With a 27.5 per cent audience share in the 14-29 target group, it was the best season among young viewers since the launch of the show in 2006.
RTL+ original The Legend of Wacken was also nominated three times. The series about the famous heavy metal music festival in northern Germany is competing in the category ‘Best Comedy Series’, while Anette Schröder has been nominated for ‘Best Decoration (Costume)’ and Sammy Scheuritzel for ‘Best Actor’.
Neue Geschichten vom Pumuckl (Pumuckl's New Adventures), which returned to RTL Deutschland with great success, has also been nominated for ‘Best Comedy Series’. The RTL+ original with Germany’s favourite red-haired goblin will return for a second season in 2025.
Reality game show The Traitors, which arrived in Germany in September 2023, has been nominated in the category ‘Best Entertainment Reality’. Host Sonja Zietlow can also hope for recognition in ‘Best Individual Performance/Moderation Entertainment’.
Other nominations for RTL Deutschland programmes and presenters include:
- Survival reality Alone – Überlebe die Wildnis (Alone – Survive the wilderness): ‘Best Entertainment Reality’
- True crime series Wachtendonk – Die Drogenküche am Niederrhein (Wachtendonk – The drug kitchen on the Lower Rhine): ‘Best Information/Documentary Camera‘
- Crime series Die Quellen des Bösen – Jagd nach dem Runen Mörder (The sources of evil – Hunt for the rune killer): ‘Best Cinematography Fiction’
- Vox programme Mälzer und Henssler liefern ab! (Mälzer and Henssler deliver!): ‘Best Factual Entertainment’
- Laura Wontorra, who has been nominated twice in the category ‘Best Individual Performance/Moderation Entertainment’ for her role as a host of the cooking show Grill den Henssler and quiz show Drei gegen Einen (Three against one).
UFA – Five nominations
Gute Freunde – Der Aufstieg des FC Bayern (Good Friends – The rise of FC Bayern) has received a nomination in the ‘Best Fiction Set Design’ category. Produced by UFA Fiction for RTL Deutschland, the series premiered at the 2023 Munich Film Festival.
Successful Prime Video Original series Maxton Hall – Die Welt zwischen uns (Maxton Hall – The world between us) has received two nominations: ‘Best Drama Series’ and ‘Best Actor’ for Damian Hardung. Produced by UFA Fiction, the series will return for a second season, with filming currently underway.
UFA Documentary Ich bin! Margot Friedländer (I am! Margot Friedländer) is also competing in two categories: ‘Best Multi-Part/TV Film’ and ‘Best Editing Fiction’.
The 25th German Television Awards will be broadcast on 25 September on ARD. An expert jury chaired by producer Wolf Bauer will select the winners in 30 categories. Programmes that aired between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024 are considered for an award.
