The agreement with SCC Events, one of the world’s largest organisers of sports events, means RTL Deutschland will broadcast the Berlin Marathon exclusively in Germany for the next three years. Starting with the 50th edition of the marathon on 29 September 2024, RTL Deutschland will follow 50,000 runners through the streets of Berlin. Alongside the live broadcast, RTL Deutschland will also provide extensive pre- and post-event coverage across various channels.
Inga Leschek, Programme Managing Director RTL and RTL+, says: “The BMW Berlin Marathon is a sports highlight that not only moves the capital, but inspires the whole of Germany. We are therefore delighted to be able to offer another major sporting event a home at RTL Deutschland, and to further expand our sports coverage with reliable partners."
Jürgen Lock, Managing Director at SCC Events, says: "Realising the coverage with a media partner that sees sport as a central component of its growth strategy underlines the international and national significance of the BMW Berlin Marathon as a beacon in the sports landscape. We are looking forward to the renewed cooperation with RTL Deutschland, which will enable our event […] to achieve even greater visibility in Germany as a first-class, popular and inclusive sports event."
Continuing partnership with RTL-Spendenmarathon
Since 2009, Berlin Marathon has raised a total of €822,199 in donations for RTL Deutschland’s charity foundation Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern. These donations have been used to help children in need in Berlin. In 2024, SCC Events will donate 200 coveted starting places for the anniversary edition of the marathon to the RTL-Spendenmarathon. 150 runners can buy a starting place for €750 via United Charity, Europe’s largest charity auction portal, while the remaining 50 places will be auctioned with a starting bid of €750. All proceeds will be donated to underprivileged children in Berlin via the RTL-Spendenmarathon.
Wolfram Kons, Chairman of Stiftung RTL - Wir helfen Kindern, says: "A perfect match: Germany's most famous marathon and the RTL-Spendenmarathon, the longest-running charity programme on German television. Everyone gives their all for top sporting performance with social responsibility and sustainable help for children. Thank you!”
